STATEMENT OF INTENT

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? ( approx. 400 words )

Production

I aim to produce a TV Show in the style of a music documentary that features a ‘famous’ artist, and they talk us through how they made one of their hit songs. I aim to make it engaging for the 16–25-year-old target audience by using a young female artist as the lead. Having a younger representation will make the audience resonate as they can relate with the person talking and feel more engaged. Due to the rise of female artists in this generation in the industry, record companies are seeing the appeal of the emotional authenticity as they are often represented with emotions. I think the rawness can speak out with others, so it will be appropriate to cast a woman, as well as females dominating pop culture. The aim is to keep people watching, so the interviewer will ask interesting questions and get personal and entertaining responses, this will keep fans of the artist engaged as they will want to learn about their favourite singer. I have the idea of incorporating monologue flashbacks/clips as I think it will break up the interview, give viewers another special and personal visual. I plan to change it to a monologue filter and even showcase some slow-motion clips would make it more emotional and fitting with what the artist will say. The use of coloured lighting in the interview to make it look bold, setting an atmosphere will make it look more ‘aesthetically pleasing’ to watch which, the target audience will appreciate as they are the demographic around that term and social media. I intend to make it look cinematic through the use of different camera angles and the use of landscape shots in between takes to break up the heavy content. I intend for the artist to have moments of vulnerability by talking about her feelings which is a convention most factual documentaries have as moments of authenticity. The use of visual text of the opening sequence will state the title, the artist, interviewer and the director's name as it will appear over the intro, with music playing underneath. I plan to use text in the bottom left corners of any location or artist's names as well as the BBC logo in the top left to be there constantly to prove that this is a BBC production. I aim to make it factual by the emphasis of real stories and the personal creative processes, that audiences can take from it. The artist will perform live at the end and I aim to make it look like she would continue into the song and break it down if it resumed as by the brief this is only the introductory episode and realistically would have a much longer duration. By physically playing the instruments adds even more of the music element to it, and most music documentaries would conventionally have live music playing. The aim of my piece is to draw attention to the show and to encourage the audience to carry on watching further episodes which will be available on the website. My Website will be a recreation of the BBC Three site as of the brief. I will create further episodes and state that there is a weekly release and by the timing which is in the brief, which would suggest for viewers that more episodes will come out for them to watch. My intention is for viewers to see the images I have created as other shows as they would on BBC and by which I will split into genres such as Dramas and Documentaries etc… I will also advertise Editors picks and BBC Sounds which they do on their own. The point and message of my website is to attract viewers for different shows and also to prove there will be a further showcase of my TV Production.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

Due to my TV Show Production piece being broadcasted on BBC Three, it is a necessity that my website has to be a copy of their website. I intend to their codes and conventions using language (‘Similar to this...’, ‘If you like this...’, separating films and shows into genres, using the logo and having the menu bar identical to the BBCs with the icons next to each page. I will copy their layout producing pictures to look like other shows, and I will represent my TV Show by being the top one. There will be a feature for other episodes and I will write that future episodes are released weekly. To further add convergence, I intent to add a small section for BBC Sounds (another convention), to show this is a big upcoming show that will only get more famous and better.I will start this by further producing my TV Show into a podcast to add a further and bigger aspect of convergence.
