PRACTICE TASKS

Print Adverts

This is the advert that I have chosen to analyse. It portrays Natalie Portman as the centre for a Coco Chanel advert and it explores many different views to the public eye.

Above is the Advert that I had to replicate from the Natalie Portman's Coco Chanel. I tried my best to work with lighting and the composition of the models pose.

Front Page Tabloid and its Codes and Conventions

This is my Tabloid replica, I was inspired by other newspaper tabloids including: The Sun, The Daily Mirror, I was specifically interested in their masthead, and the general layout of their paper.
Below is my Codes and Conventions Slideshow about Tabloid Newspapers. It analyses in detail the set up and layout of the paper itself.

Testing WIX

This is a screenshot of the first WIX website I have made. It was my first time using the site so I had to get used to using their elements and design options. The brief for this was to create a new online news site, for 16-25 year olds on news about life, sport, environment and and socio-political notes

EQUIPMENT RESEARCH

These different lighting techniques, using a model at home; I used a figurine and mini book LED lamp to create lighting, as well as using a white background to portray a  mini "studio" at home.

Using our favourite model, we tested different lighting techniques and copied our chosen inspiration pictures, to see if we could develop the same techniques. This is the analysis and how I took these photos.

I then started to experience playing around with different coloured lighting.

COMPLETED WEBSITE

 Website Homepage: https://annabellamina26.wixsite.com/website

Hyperlinked Page: https://annabellamina26.wixsite.com/website/iplayer

Audio-Visual Element: Old Green Studio: A Talk with the Artist, my TV Production which is found on the hyperlinked page.

Navigation: If you click on the series image display of the main show, the biggest picture that is the focus of the homepage, called 'Old Green Studio: A Talk with the Artist', it will take you straight through to the hyperlinked page which is dedicated to the show where you can access other future episodes. You can access the video by clicking on the large image and it will play in an expanded full screen view in a new page. You can also play it from the smaller image below under the list of episodes. You can also get to hyperlinked page by clicking the 'iPlayer'  menu at the top, located in the header, but for a more realistic experience as viewer, getting the hyperlinked page through the series image in the homepage is more ideal. As for the Audio-Visual, that is found on the hyperlinked page 'A Christmas Message from the Producer', that is recommended to watch before the show due to the timeline, you can do so by clicking the picture and be taken to a new page.

Above is a part of my mock up website. As I am creating a TV Show which is to be broadcasted on BBC Three, I tried my best to replicate the real website. I did this by using the same logo, menu bar and green strip it is most recognised for. I used the same layout, but used AI photos as a replica to the real photos I will take.

Here is a section under the 'Editor's Section', where there is an opportunity to advertise IPlayer and other social media platforms. There is also the opportunity to contact BBC on the website for any concerns.

I then replaced the AI pictures with ones that I had taken myself. I edited them to make it look like real shows and TV. I did this by planning out different shows, that I had seen on BBC Three and I replaced them with my own. I made sure to make each one fit the mood of the show, mostly by colour and lighting and editing each of the pictures with the titles.

The Constant changing of BBC websites

PLANNING PRODUCTION

Below is part of the script that I have been following to know which shots I want when, the dialogue from the characters and keeping organised with different locations.

Due to being organised on the script, it made the editing process a lot easier. Below are a few screenshots of my editing process.  The use of layering really helped as I could easily see everything at shot at the same time, whether that be sounds (voice overs or backing music), text being used and the footage being played. I then added the BBC logo in the top left corner, as this pieced it all together. I used a Drone to shoot above the lighthouse as I found in most other shows, conventionally there is a scenic landscape shot before the talking starts.

As the audience is targeted to those young adults, I wanted to add coloured lighting to make it more bold. By adding the pink and warmer light, I hope makes the interview feel more calmer and welcoming whilst adding colours which make it more appealing.

I also thought that the scenes which aren't a part of the interview should be monochrome, this mostly to add a contrast and opposition between the conversation and silent scenes, it adds a variety to the viewer as it changes. It also makes it clearer when watching of the time frame, that they are two different times. The warm lighting makes it feel inviting to the casual conversation whereas monochrome is more raw and vulnerable, as in these parts she's talking about grief. In these vulnerable moments, I wanted the audience to focus on her speech, and focus their mind on the visuals rather than getting distracted by the colour. Black and white also makes it more dramatic and connotes the death, as it is symbolises mourning in which the artist is talking about in some of those particular scenes.

C AND C WEBSITE

Even though I am replicating the BBC Three website, here are the conventions I have noticed:

Song Exploder

For the website of Song Exploder, I like the simplicity of the website and how it contrasts with the colour of the logo; it's as if the colourful and saturated logo makes up for the lack of colour on the actual home page.

I also really like how easy it is to find and access things. for example the main page is the list of episodes and starring guests, which is nice to find in one place but also because it attracts viewers if they see another artist they like in that list.
If you click on the latest artist's episode, it also takes you to another page where you can see their Instagram posts, and a background of the singers history as well as a cool looking preview to the podcast.

BBC Live Lounge

Although BBC is a platform that offers a lot of services such as: Radio and Podcasts, TV dramas and Films; which therefore means that they don't completely focus on this one series. However, BBC Live Lounge really stood out to me both the series itself but also the way they presented it. Even though this isn't BBC's home page itself, I think it's interesting in the way that the screen is split into four columns and it is presented with a massive photo of the logo which is very bright and eye catching for viewers. I also like how you can preview other episodes underneath with smaller pictures.

The opportunity to find more shows and branding throughout.

Tape Notes

Similar to Song Exploder, Tape Notes also uses the strip of black at the top of their website with a bright multicolour logo to emphasise the name.
Here is the 'Episodes' page of the website. I like how there is a very symmetrical layout of the pictures, so it accessible and easy to read. The pictures are inviting toward the audience.

I really like the socials part of the page, the size is a little bigger compared to others but its eye catching against the black bar.
